Kaitlyn's spirit is beautiful and strong. She fought a long seven week battle against HLH, but on November 15, 2013, in her parents’ arms and surrounded by loved ones, she closed her eyes and rested.
Anyone who was fortunate enough to have known her, could tell you that she was the sweetest child. She was always so content, happy, and loving. She left us much too early, but not before filling our hearts and thoughts with a million memories of her babbling, her laughter, her endless smiles.
Nobody can feel the void as deeply as her parents, Rick and Lee. From the moment she was conceived, everyone could see their love for her. They showed her off to the world and showed her the world from a carrier, a stroller, a car seat, and even an airplane! Rick and Lee took her everywhere, and did everything with her. You could always see the pride beaming from their eyes, when they looked at her, and saw the equal mix of them that made her so perfect... Because that’s what she was. Just perfect... Maybe too perfect for this world.
Through his pain and sadness, Rick said it best. He said that it would be easy to become bitter, and let anger and resentment eat away at you. But that would not be honouring Kaitlin’s memory. One thing she will always be remembered for is the way she loved. She loved so beautifully, without questions, without conditions, without limitations. She loved in the innocent way only a child could love. So let love be her legacy. Let’s love as freely as she did, and let’s spread love generously so she can look down on us beaming with pride.
Let’s celebrate her life. Let’s celebrate that we were fortunate enough to have known her, even if it was just for a fleeting moment. In celebrating her life, we must also celebrate our own. Life is fragile. Live every minute to the fullest, and love everyone who touches your life. Surround yourself with family and friends, and CHOOSE to be happy. This is what Kaitlyn was, and this is what she would want for us.
Kaitlyn left her mark in this world, and tattooed her love in our hearts.
Until we meet again Kaitlyn, all our love.
